Sport Studies: Why is study focused locally instead of internationally when sport is a natural phenomenon?
Filed under sportJun 30I study sport at degree level. Of most journals, book and other texts I read, they are primarily focused on UK, Europe, America and generally commonwealth countries. It seems to me that sport is like a universal language and we can all learn from each other, why doesn’t Russian sport, Chinese, Brazilian etc come up much? I’m aware of political ideologies perhaps having an affect on bias but that can’t be it surely?
Well. Simply because sports is not really a degree, is it?
In developing countries, we try to focus on important things. If you study “sports” at uni, you are probably going to starve to death in any of these countries when you graduate. The only thing that you’ll be able to do is work as a Personal Trainer. And as these countries don’t waste money on rubbish, you probably will be unemployed with a blink of an eye.
Do you actually think you need a degree to kick a ball or move your arms in the water to move around without drowning?
University degrees are taken very seriously over here. We study law, medicine and relevant things. Those who study “sports” are a joke to all university-level students. For that very reason, you won’t find papers about this nonsense.
